Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American television journalist, commentator and anchor for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from University of Pennsylvania. In 1967 Mitchell became a reporter for KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. She was then a reporter for the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) located situated in Washington DC. She joined NBC News Washington two years after that as an general reporter. In 1981 began reporting on the White House and became chief of the congressional reporter in 1988. Mitchell was named chief White House correspondent by NBC News, in 1992. Mitchell is a regular on the TV news program Meet the Press as a panelist and host. She was part of a panel discussion at the the 1988 Presidential Debates, which featured George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell received the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and, in 2004, in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) honored Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her work in the defense and protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. It was a time when both Ronald Reagan terms in office. Her reporting included a number of crucial stories such as the Iran-contra affair, the budget and tax reform, as well as the arms control. Mitchell traveled extensively together with the president Reagan to meet together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
